Week 1 ORC: Dining Room & Entryway Transformation

Behind the Scenes

It’s finally here! I officially started of my journey of the Fall 2024 One Room Challenge (ORC), and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s time for a Dining room and entryway transformation…let’s rewind and lay some foundation. For those of you who may not be familiar, the One Room Challenge is an 8-week design event that brings together designers, home enthusiasts, and creatives from all over. Twice a year, participants choose one room to transform and document the entire process, sharing updates and progress along the way. The grand finale? A full reveal of the redesigned space that captures not just the physical changes but also the inspiration and thought process behind the transformation.

Why I Chose the Dining Room and Entryway

For this season’s challenge, I knew I wanted to focus on the spaces that play a central role in my family’s day-to-day life—the dining room and the entryway. These two areas are where first impressions happen and where family and friends gather to connect and enjoy each other’s company.

This dining room and entryway transformation is special because these spaces hold great significance in my home. It’s where we share meals, celebrate milestones, and have meaningful conversations. Right now, it feels underwhelming and doesn’t reflect the energy and warmth that I envision for this space. My goal is to transform it into a sanctuary for these everyday moments—a space that fosters connection and well-being through thoughtful design choices.

The entryway is the first thing guests see when they step into our home, and right now, it’s a little uninspiring. Since it’s a smaller space, I want to maximize its impact by making it feel welcoming and cohesive with the rest of the home. A well-designed entry sets the tone for the entire space, and I’m excited to reimagine it as part of this project.

The “Before” – Setting the Stage

Right now, both the dining room and entryway are blank canvases. The dining room has great potential, but the furniture and lighting need a refresh. As for the entryway, it’s simple, but I see an opportunity to add warmth and character to create a strong first impression.

What’s Next?

For the next 8 weeks, I’ll be sharing my progress with you here and on Instagram as I dive into the design process, make decisions, and tackle each step of this transformation. By the end of the Fall 2024 One Room Challenge, I hope this dining room makeover reflects a warm, inviting ambiance. Next week, I’ll share my design vision and some inspiration for both spaces. In the meantime, learn more about how I incorporate wellness in interior design.

What’s the one change you’d love to see in these areas? Drop a comment or suggestion—I’d love to hear your thoughts on this dining room and entryway transformation
